Summary

The software we produce is like the neighborhood in which we live. We spend a lot of time there–in some cases more than in our real homes. We are each responsible for our neighborhood. If it is cluttered, leaks, or is infested with bugs, it detracts from our joy. Even grand, ill-repaired mansions can’t compare to quaint, well-maintained cottages. As homeowners, we spend a lot more time worrying about keeping up the landscaping or the interior decorating than we do about showing the neighbors blueprints of our new addition. So it should be with our code.
